Katie's battle with childhood cancer has ended, but countless families are still in the midst of it, with some just starting their journey. I know from personal experience how quickly finances can be depleted, even when medical bills are covered. Katie and I were away from home for over 13 months initially, and then for several weeks at a time over the next 15 months due to surgeries, treatments, and tests. The reality is that at least one parent will likely lose a significant portion of their income while caring for a child undergoing cancer treatment. For families who, like us, are displaced or those from smaller Alaskan communities, additional expenses arise that aren't covered by insurance. Even for those fortunate enough to receive treatment in their home city, the demands of caring for a seriously ill child are extensive and unpredictable. Through hospital social workers, Katie's Handprint provides financial grants to Alaskan families whose children are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Our goal is to help alleviate some of that financial strain, even if only a little.
