Dylan Bales
I am a long-term Alaskan, moving here as an 11 year old. My early years were spent near Seattle so my older sister could get the healthcare she needed at Seattle Children’s Hospital, so I am no stranger to kids and families in need due to illness. When an opportunity to become a board member of Katie’s Handprint came along, I jumped at the chance.
I run an Alaskan family business – SR Bales Construction, a commercial contracting firm. As the Vice President and General Manager, I lead the day to day operations. SR Bales is known for providing quality work and value to our clients and I strive to bring those same attributes to the volunteer work that I do for Katie’s Handprint. On the board, I am known as the idea guy who is looking to raise more and more donations so we can give larger grants to Alaskan families impacted by childhood cancer.
When not working hard at SR Bales and Katie’s Handprint, I love to camp, fish, and hunt in our great state. My partner, Melissa and I have two of our own children and three foster children. We love to spend time outdoors and travel. We have a large extended family and our home is often the meeting space for gatherings.
At Katie’s Handprint, we honor a special young lady and her vision. I feel privileged to have personally known Katie. We both traveled to a family wedding in Mexico where Katie and my youngest daughter swam with dolphins together. Katie struck me as full of energy and life, despite how desperately sick she really was. We all knew she wouldn’t be with us for long but Katie put all around her at ease with her infectious personality and bravery. Katie continues to inspire me and many others to help families who are in the awful position of dealing with childhood cancer. I am extremely proud of the work we do at Katies Handprint and look forward to many years of success and growth for our organization and the families we help.
